The Reception Class takes children aged 4 - 5 years of age. The session times for this class are from 9.00am, finishing at 3.00pm on Monday to Thursday. On Friday the children stay until midday.
The Foundation Stage Curriculum is followed and the children begin their formal education in small groups of approximately 8 - 9 children at a time. The groups participate in daily literacy and numeracy activities during the morning in specially designated classrooms - one room being devoted to Literacy and the other to Numeracy.
French, IT, Science, Carpentry, Swimming, Trampolining and Ice Skating are added to the curriculum. Additional activities include Dance Drama, PE, Cooking, Gardening, Pottery and Art.
The School admits children into the Reception Class at the start of each academic year. Admissions during the course of the School Year happen very rarely.
The availability of spaces is not confirmed until the middle of the Easter Term (usually end of February, early March) before the intake in question. When the number of places is identified, prospective parents from the Reception Class waiting list are invited into the School to meet with the Principal and a place may be offered shortly thereafter.
All children joining the Reception Class are invited into the School during the course of the summer term for a visit, to spend some time in the Morning Nursery class and to meet the staff. School uniform, which is compulsory, can be bought from the School Office during this visit.
A number of children leave the School after the Reception Class, invariably to join other Prep Schools in the North London area which admit children in Year 1. These schools include St Anthony's, The Hall School and The Village School
The School is a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) and therefore the Independent Schools Inspectorate carries out regular inspections. The most recent Inspection took place in March 2009.
